Turning a promise made to the customer into a real experience depends not only on marketing, but on how the organization as a whole operates.

A brand promise defines the value a brand intends to offer its customers. That value may have both functional and emotional dimensions; in essence, it is the commitment a brand makes to its customers.
A brand promise may originate within the marketing function. But it becomes real only to the extent that the organization as a whole can deliver on it.
Because customers do not experience a brand only through its advertising or social media content.
Product performance, the sales approach, delivery, after-sales service, employee attitudes and the decisions made across the organization…
Customers experience the brand through the products, services and overall experience delivered by the organization as a whole.
This is where the real test begins
Even when the brand promise is clearly defined by marketing, the promise made to the customer may not always find the same expression in the organization’s day-to-day operations.
The challenge, therefore, is not simply for each function to do its own job well. For the promise to be consistently reflected in organizational choices and ways of working, there needs to be stronger shared direction, alignment and a culture of collaboration across functions.
In this process, several roles can make particularly important contributions.
CEO
Strong advocacy of the brand promise across the organization; fostering a culture that strengthens cross-functional collaboration rather than silos; and ensuring that key decisions and processes remain aligned with the promise.
Marketing Leadership
Working with relevant teams to define how the brand promise should translate into decisions, processes and behaviors across different functions.
Human Resources
Supporting the reflection of the brand promise in the employee experience and ways of working through recruitment, development, performance management and leadership behaviors.
Corporate Communications
Helping build and sustain a shared understanding of the brand promise across the organization through internal communication channels.
Bringing a brand promise to life is not simply a marketing matter; it is an organization’s ability to work together.
